Employee Spotlight: Jonathan Hagberg

Next up we have developer extraordinaire, Jonathan Hagberg. One of the great masterminds behind our redesigned app, Cycles!

What is something other professionals have to deal with in your industry that you want to fix?

Overall, I find that the general knowledge about programming is really low. Dare I say, most people don’t have a single idea of what I actually do. I think it’s really good that kids have started learning programming in elementary school and something that I think is starting to fix this issue!

What do you do at Perigee?

I work on our two apps Seven and Cycles making sure we get cool new features and that both new and old features are working well.

What’s your story?

I studied computer science in Lund and when I finished I decided to stay in the area. I took a job at a consulting company in Malmö, moved here and the rest is history. In my career I've worked mostly as an iOS Developer for banking, music and entertainment apps. After roughly 4 years I felt I wanted to try something new and I really wanted to work at a product company instead of a consultancy. When I found out about Perigee I thought it was a perfect match and I applied.

Your top 3 favorite podcasts/books?

My favourite podcast is a swedish one called Rollspelsklubben where swedish comedians play role-playing games. It’s SO much fun to listen to that me and my friends decided to try it out ourselves. My second and third favourites would probably be P3 Dokumentär and P3 Historia, swedish public radio sub 1h documentaries about modern persons/events or historical ones.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?

I usually play some kind of instrument; now, it’s mostly piano and sometimes guitar. I watch a lot of Netflix, play video games and hang out with friends.

What are you passionate about?

I like creating things, it could be through coding or through music, it doesn’t matter. Maybe I should buy some play dough or lego 😅!

How do you think your colleagues would describe you?

I’m pretty straightforward, I like being involved in discussions and I hope I can be fun sometimes too!

What would be your personal motto?

I don’t do mottos is my personal motto. 🙊

What has been your favorite project at Perigee?

You may have see our new update on Cycles over the summer. We basically reworked the app from the ground up. Since there were so many new features I had the freedom to architect it exactly how I wanted to. Which was really nice.

What skill(s) have you developed while working at Perigee?

I’ve only worked at Perigee for about 8 months but I feel like I’ve already learned a lot about product development, making sure we work on things that matter and make sense. I’ve also improved my ability to go for that last 10% that makes an app great instead of good.
