What to Drink After a Workout

Just like cars need the right fuel to work properly, our bodies do too. A balance of carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals and water is key to a happy body. And while this is true for a healthy lifestyle in general, it’s even more important when your body is recovering after a workout. Here are some great post-workout drinks that will help your body refuel, rebuild and get stronger.

Beetroot smoothie

Beetroots are perfect after a workout since they promote muscle regeneration. Mix 150 grams of beetroot with 2 apples, some ginger and 2-3 carrots in a juice blender, and you’re good to go!

Tomato juice

Tomatoes provide vital chemicals to help your muscles recover after being stretched and strained, and they also help your blood sugar return to its normal level. Simply drink it as is with some ice, or mix in an apple and ginger.

Coconut water

Coconut water is loaded with electrolytes like potassium and sodium, that help replenish and rehydrate your body post-workout. Just make sure to get pure coconut water with as little added ingredients as possible.

Homemade energy drink

If you’re in a hurry, why not whip up a quick homemade energy drink? Mix water, lemon, 1 tablespoon salt and 1 tablespoon honey.
